Windsor Castle & Oxford University

Today dawned as sunny, bright & warm as yesterday as we enjoyed breakfast in our hotel's conservatory, much better rested than yesterday!
We then boarded our bus & headed out of London to our first destination - Royal Windsor.
The town of Windsor has small, cobbled streets filled with cafes, shops & pubs.  But the big attraction is Windsor Castle, the official residence of Queen Elizabeth as well as the largest, oldest & longest inhabited castle in the world, continually a home to British royalty since it was built over 900 years ago.
We spent the morning touring the castle, seeing the State Apartments, the Queen's Picture Gallery, Queen Mary's Doll House, & the Round Tower & Garden.  Afterwards there was time to explore the town around the castle, shop, & have lunch.
We regrouped to meet our bus & drive to our second destination, the city of Oxford.
Home to one of the world's oldest & best universities, Oxford is a beautiful town of historic buildings, most built in the distinctive golden local stone.
On a relaxed walking tour we saw the Martyrs' Memorial, the Sheldonian Theatre, the Bodliean Library, & the Radcliffe Camera.  And we were able to go inside Balliol College to see what a typical  Oxford College looks like, centered around its expansive lawns.  Then there was some free time before we met up for dinner.
Dinner tonight was at an historic pub, The Chequers. In a building dating back to 1260, this building became an inn in 1500 & has been a hostelry of one kind or another even since - for over 500 years!  We enjoyed a typical English pub dinner in great surrounding, then boarded our bus one more time for the journey back to London & our hotel at the end of a great day.
